Brush box is important tree of the coastal forests of Eastern Australia. A heavy structural timber of plain appearance, resembling turpentine in general character.

Brush Box color varies from pink brown, red brown or gray brown to dark red. It darkens after prolonged exposure. Brown or reddish-brown, turning grey on exposure to the weather, with a fine, even texture and irregularly interlocked grain.

In Australia classification of structural timbers Brush Box is placed in Group B. It has particularly good wearing qualities, withstanding rough usage without splintering. Brush Box is regarded as the best Australian timber for bridge and wharf decking. It is also used for heavy-duty industrial flooring, for the heads of mauls and mallets and for a wide range of structural work. Brush Box is reported to be generally resistant to attack by decay fungi and termites. The wood is reported to be very difficult to saw. They tend to be rather difficult to plane and work with most tools, but can be dressed to a smooth finish.

Mahogany D'OR

Mahogany D’or is reported to be relatively secure within parts of its range but it is known to be Vulnerable in Cameroon and the Ivory Coast. It is considered as a Candidate for an environmental status assessment in Ghana and Uganda because it is suspected to be either Extinct, Endangered, Rare, or Vulnerable in those areas.

The geographical range of Mahogany is reported to extend from the Ivory Coast to the Cameroon, eastward through Zaire to Uganda. It is reported to be found in different forest types, including deciduous, evergreen and transitional zones.

Mahogany is a large rain forest tree from Africa. It is reported to grow heights of 150 feet(45m), with trunk diameters of 48 to 72 inches (120 to 180cm). Boles are usually clear and cylindrical to heights of 80 to 100 feet (24 to 30m)

The heartwood is pink when freshly cut but it matures to red-brown or purple brown color.

Species of Juglans are among the most beautiful commercial timber in the world. Quartered wood displays a beautiful dark brown color with blackish striped figure. The Persian Walnut, Asian Tropical Walnut and the American Black Walnut and its allies are important for their attractive timber which (except in young trees) is hard durable, dense, tight grained and can be polished to a very smooth finish. The color ranges from creamy white in the sapwood to a dark chocolate color in the heartwood. When kiln dried, walnut wood tends toward a dull dark brown color but when condition can become rich purplish to dark brown. Because of its color, hardness and exotic grain, it is a prized furniture carving and decorative wood. Veneer sliced from walnut is on the most valuable and highly prized by cabinet makers and prestige car manufacturers. Walnut wood has been the timber of choice for gun makers, it is used for exclusive sporting guns.
